To empower justice impacted individuals in McHenry County to overcome barriers, build confidence, and achieve meaningful employment and career advancement through coaching, resources, and real-world skills training.

We walk alongside participants every step of the way—helping them discover their strengths, set goals, and create a brighter future for themselves and their families.

With over 20 years in public education and decades of experience mentoring individuals from all walks of life, Tom is passionate about helping people believe in themselves and build a better future.

Tom founded the STEP Forward Program to provide practical tools, real-world guidance, and unwavering support to those ready to take the next step.

John is a successful entrepreneur and businessman with a passion for innovation and helping people unlock their full potential.

John is currently working alongside Tom Faber to help develop the STEP Forward online platform and future career advancement initiatives designed to expand the program’s reach and impact.

Melissa Freundt

Workforce Development Specialist
McHenry County College

Melissa is a professional in the Workforce Development Division at McHenry County College, where she partners with local employers and employees to support upskilling and reskilling initiatives that strengthen our workforce.

She also volunteers with the STEP Forward Program, helping guide and support participants as they work toward their career goals.

Gina Zinck

Coordinated Entry Manager
Pioneer Center for Human Services

Gina brings more than 20 years of experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness. As the Coordinated Entry Manager for McHenry County, she leads efforts to streamline access to housing resources and ensure the most vulnerable individuals receive the support they need.

Gina is passionate about building effective systems and using data to drive improvement and equitable solutions.

Kelly is an intern with the STEP Forward Program, supporting the team and participants through research, resource development, and program coordination.

Her dedication and drive to make a difference help strengthen the mission and impact of the program.
